"Silver Pendant with a Galil Design, Engraved with the Full Blessing of 'Ana B'koach.'
'Ana B'koach' is a piyyut (liturgical poem) consisting of seven lines attributed to Rabbi Nechunya ben HaKaneh from the first century CE. According to Kabbalistic tradition, the piyyut was written based on the name of the 42-letter name of God mentioned in the Talmud. Rabbi Yehuda said, 'The 42-letter name is entrusted only to one who is modest and humble, who stands halfway through his days, who does not get angry, does not get drunk, and does not insist on his own honor.'
The combination of the 42 letters starts from the word "Bereshit" (Genesis) and goes until the second letter of the word "Vavohu." The letters are rearranged using a secret formula of the Kabbalists to form the name 'Ben Melech Bet-Mem-Bet.'
Rabbi Nechunya ben HaKaneh foresaw a time when people would lose their spirituality, and for this reason, he composed a prayer using the same letters. Each letter in the name represents one of the seven sefirot (divine emanations):
Aleph, Bet, Gimel, Yod, Tzade, Kuf, Shin - representing the sefirah of Chesed (loving-kindness) - astrological signs of Capricorn and Aquarius (Saturn)
Kuf, Reish, Ayin, Tav, Shin, Tet, Nun - representing the sefirah of Gevurah (strength) - astrological signs of Sagittarius and Pisces (Jupiter)
Nun, Gimel, Dalet, Yod, Yud, Chet, Shin - representing the sefirah of Tiferet (beauty) - astrological signs of Aries and Scorpio (Mars)
Bet, Tet, Reish, Tzade, Tav, Zayin, Gimel - representing the sefirah of Netzach (eternity) - astrological sign of Leo (Sun)
Chet, Kuf, Beit, Tet, Nun, Ayin - representing the sefirah of Hod (glory) - astrological signs of Taurus and Libra (Venus)
Yod, Gimmel, Lamed, Pey, Zayin, Kuf - representing the sefirah of Yesod (foundation) - astrological signs of Gemini and Virgo (Mercury)
Shin, Kuf, Vav, Tzade, Yod, Tzade - representing the sefirah of Malchut (kingship) - astrological sign of Cancer (Moon)
